The Chemical Equation Balancer takes an unbalanced equation and returns the smallest whole-number coefficients that balance it, with the reasoning visible. It counts each element on both sides, chooses the element to balance first, adjusts coefficients one at a time, and re-counts after each change. Redox equations in acidic or basic solution are balanced by the half-reaction method with electrons, water, hydrogen ions, and hydroxide ions added where required. Ionic equations can be reduced to net ionic form with spectator ions removed. It also balances equations with polyatomic ions treated as units, hydrates, and equations where a fractional coefficient must be cleared, and it can classify the reaction type once balanced.
Type the equation with plain subscripts and an arrow: "Fe + O2 -> Fe2O3", "C3H8 + O2 -> CO2 + H2O", "MnO4- + Fe2+ -> Mn2+ + Fe3+ in acidic solution". Charges go after the formula as 2+ or -. A photo of the printed equation works. State "acidic" or "basic" for redox in solution, and "net ionic" if that is the target. Give the reactants only, with the reaction type, and the solver will predict the products before balancing. If a formula is ambiguous, such as a subscript that could be read two ways in a photo, the solver echoes the equation it read before balancing so you can correct it. Include states of matter if the assignment wants them; they are carried through unchanged.
Output: the balanced equation first, then a table of atom counts per element before and after, then the sequence of coefficient changes with the reason for each. Redox output shows both half-reactions, the electron balance, and the recombination. The working is shown so you can check it by recounting.
